Ever feel tired or run down?
Who doesn’t?
It’s completely natural for us to feel depleted of energy throughout the day. We go to bed and, hopefully, feel more restored the next day. It can often feel like we have a limited supply of energy. However, once we feel a strong enough emotion, it can suddenly appear out of nowhere.
Think about this.
Have you ever felt exhausted and then one of your friends stops by and tells you they have tickets to see your favorite band or to see something you have waited your whole life to experience. You feel energized and ready to go!
It also works with other emotions like sadness or anger. You may feel sad about the end of your relationship and you don’t feel motivated to do anything. Then, one day, you run into someone new and interesting. Your heart starts to beat faster. You smile and start laughing. The energy and enthusiasm for life, which you thought was gone, is back! You’re hungry and even inspired to try new things or go to new places, hopefully, with them.
We all have energy centers throughout our bodies, your heart is among them. One of the most accessible ways to create more energy is through opening our hearts. Yes, it may be one of the last places you want to look or even feel impossible to do. Life has a way of toughening, hardening, and even closing our hearts. We get hurt or betrayed and start to build walls around it. Our hearts get broken and we have bad relationships. We lose someone or a pet we loved to death. Life happens and we decide to either open or close our hearts more or less. It fluctuates and changes, as does life.
You may be reading this and saying, “Right. Love is the answer or love is all there is, just like the Beatles said.” You may feel jaded about love or frustrated by it. You could also completely agree and believe this but feel afraid to do it. You may not trust your heart. All of this is part of being human and a result of our experiences. Depending on what we have had happen during our lifetime, we will have different responses to this statement:
By opening our hearts, we allow more energy to flow into and through us, creating an amazing life in the process.
However you respond to this statement, it is right for you. It’s based on your unique life experiences. All of which are specific to you and for you. It’s not about justifying why you feel the way you feel. It’s more about learning how to open your heart more, and more often. Why is that?
The short answer is that opening your heart allows more energy and meaningful life experiences to enter and flow through you.
Opening our hearts allows us to be more receptive to what life has to offer. It also inspires us and moves us towards creativity. When we create, we feel more connected and present with each moment. It’s true. Have you ever been making something and lost track of time or felt like you unplugged from the world during that time? It’s a beautiful thing.
We can struggle with repetitive thoughts, our circumstances, or the current state of the world. Who doesn’t?
When we open our hearts and allow ourselves to become immersed in the present moment, we free our minds to be naturally curious and explore. This is part of the creative process. Making something, whether it’s art or shelf for your garage, allows a space for us to process the world around us. As we’re working and moving, we are able to free our minds and focus on the task at hand. We process and release through this activity. Think about it, or don’t. It will naturally happen.
It’s amazing what we can actually create, if we allow ourselves to have open hearts as we go throughout life. Think about the amazing works of art, music, dances, or anything that has been created because someone felt inspired. Inspiration they received as a result of opening their hearts. They wrote a piece of music because they were hurt, they built an invention to save lives because they lost someone they loved who didn’t have it, or they designed a new gardening system to celebrate their passion for nature.
They had to have the energy to do all of this. That energy came from within them and through opening their heart to life, engaging with it, and exploring the possibilities it presented to them.
We have an infinite source of energy, available to us at any time. The way to unlock it is through allowing ourselves to be open and, along with that opening, our hearts. We must be more willing to open our hearts and less so with closing it. It’s the passage through which life unfolds.
Michael A. Singer said it so well in his book, The Untethered Soul:
The most important thing in life is your inner energy. If you’re always tired and never enthused, then life is no fun. But if you’re always inspired and filled with energy, then every minute of every day is an exciting experience. Learn to work with these things. Through meditation, through awareness and willful efforts, you can learn to keep your centers open. You do this by just relaxing and releasing. You do this by not buying into the concept that there is anything worth closing over. Remember, if you love life, nothing is worth closing over. Nothing, ever, is worth closing your heart over.
